Arkitekterna har tagit fram ett alternativ till HSBs planer på att riva gammal gårdsmiljö i Södertälje för att ge plats åt ett hus-i-park torn med garage i gatuplan.

About
In the north-west corner of Södertälje’s downtown lies a neighborhood called Amerika, an environment consisting of smaller apartment buildings and detached houses mostly from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. On one of the corners, where the neighborhood’s main artery Täppgatan meets Fredsgatan, nestles an older and historically significant yard house that is threatened with demolition to make place for a new multi-family development.
As an alternative to this, we have developed a project that instead aims at building upon and refining the unique environment of Amerika. On the corner facing the main through-fare, we have introduced a couple of small shop fronts that signals the entry into the neigborhood; a meeting plane for the neighborhood as well as for people strolling into downtown. Above and behind these, with entry from Fredsgatan, lies 10 new aparmtents around a common, south facing backyard that is shared with a dwelling unit in the renovated historic yard house.
Similar to the neighbors in the historic context, the new building seeks its own unique identity within the framework of the scale and typologies already existing in the block. All while preserving and developing the historic yard environment into a unique living in a vibrant neighborhood on the very edge of downtown.TheSETT designstudio
